USB Pen Drive cannot be removed

Something I experience a lot with these USB drives is the message advising you that the drive is still being used when you try and safetly remove it. This message is generally like this:

  • "The generic volume cannot be removed now. Try again later."
  • "Cannot delete file: Access is denied"
  • "There has been a sharing violation."
  • "The source or destination file may be in use."
  • "The file is in use by another program or user."
  • "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

Usually this means something is still accessing the drive, but what?

The best utility I have found is "Unlocker" which can be found here:

    http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Please note: This is an external link, of which I have no control, neither can I give support. As at March 2008 this utility is free but this may change
